Western Digital My Passport Essential USB External Hard Drive

Here we take a look at the Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive which is an external 2.5" unit, model number WDME3200TE. This is the rather subtle Midnight Black edition but if you're a little more adventurous they come in several colours including Red, White, Pink and a rather striking Intense Blue. The WD Passport range also ships in other capacities including 160GB, 250GB and a huge 500GB version. They will soon even be releasing a 1TB drive in the Passport Essential product line. I would recommend getting the biggest size you can afford as it will cost you a lot more in the future if you run out of room and need another drive instead of wishing you'd bought a slightly bigger capacity. You can often find that the largest size demands a premium, but there's often not a lot between the remaining sized drives.

Looks
The passport essential has a sleek and glossy casing which can unfortunately scratch easily and also attract dust and the dreaded fingerprints. Despite this the Western Digital portable drive looks great. You could always buy a separate case to add further protection for your drive, especially if you plan on taking it out and about with you.

In Use
Setup of the WD My Passport Essential 320GB USB drive is really easy, just plug it in, start your PC and you are up and running. There are some useful utilities factory installed on the hard disk but they are not required in order for you to use the drive.

The utilities that Western Digital include with the passport essential consist of backup software, synchronisation software and encryption software that keeps your data secure in the event it falls into the wrong hands.

The my passport essential 320GB USB drive's transfer speeds are competitive for a 2.5 inch portable hard drive but are certainly slower than mains powered MyBook Essential drives from the Western Digital product range. The passport uses the USB 2 interface so is comparable in terms of transfer speeds to its 2.5" external drive competition. The new USB3 interface isn't supported on this model.

Reliability
WD have a very good reputation for reliability and although all hard drives can fail you probably won't get a more reliable external hard drive. The warranty is two years which is a little mean but it's not the one year that many manufacturers provide these days. Despite this you should always make sure you have a second copy of any data you store on a hard disk drive.

Positive
Lots of size options to suit your requirements
USB powered requires no external power adaptor
Small unit easily fits in a shirt pocket
Compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems
Software included with package
Turns on and off with your computer
Simple setup

Negative
Slower transfer speeds compared to 3.5 inch external drives
Glossy casing attracts fingerprints, scratches and dust
No firewire, eSATA or USB 3.0 support.

The western digital my passport essential 320gb usb external hard drive range is a great storage solution as a back up device or as a portable device. As always, is pays to read up on each drive you're looking at and to find the best price for the external hard drive you require. Thanks for reading my article.

How Do Inkjet Printer Refills Work?

Well their name kinda gives the game away doesn't it? An inkjet refill kit allows you to refill your existing ink cartridges with fresh ink more than once. This saves you having to rush out and buy a new black or color cartridge every time you run short of ink. And let's face facts....don't you always run out of ink at just the very, very worst possible time?

There are two types of inkjet refill kit - black and color. The color kit comes with cyan (blue), magenta (purple) and yellow inks. This would allow you to refill your ink tanks individually with the required color. Refilling a combination or tri-color inkjet cartridge is a lot more difficult though.

The black inkjet refill comes with just black ink to refill...well....to refill your black ink cartridges.

How Do Refills Work?
Each inkjet refill comes with a syringe and air balance plugs. The syringe is used to inject fresh ink directly back into your cartridge. This is achieved in different ways depending on the cartridge manufacturer. Some ink cartridges are just much easier to refill than others. The main point is that every inkjet cartridge has a refill hole of one type or another that you can get the ink in through.

The clips or plugs are used to form a tight seal over the refill hole although they are removable for later refills.

Finally you need to prime the cartridge by setting the printhead on some paper towels - this encourage the flow of ink and then you can clean the printhead with the supplied cleaning fluid.

How Reliable Are Refills?
As long as you're careful and follow the instructions provided anyone can refill an inkjet cartridge. A standard printer cartridge can be refilled 7 - 10 times and must be discarded after that to prevent leakage and potential damage to your printer.

The Print Quality Is?
This depends on the quality of the supplier. Ink refill companies who work towards the high standards manufacture their inks to match the viscosity, density and drying time of their inks to that of the original manufacturer. You might need to test several suppliers before you find one that suits both you and your printers needs.

There are dozens if not hundreds of inkjet refill suppliers with online stores. Shopping online gives you the convenience of choosing the exact product you need delivered to your front door (sometimes overnight) at up to 75% less than you'd normally pay. Many online stores offer Free Shipping once you spend a certain amount with them.

One final note. Check your printer documentation for warranty warnings on using inkjet refills with your printer. Some manufacturers will void your printer warranty for using inkjet refills.

Wouldn't you like to be able to cut your inkjet cartridge costs by 75%? We can help you find cheap printer cartridges and inkjet refill kits right now.

Computer Processors - CPU Operation

The processor is an electronic circuit that executes computer programs. It performs it in four basic phases:

1. Fetch: In this phase, the processor collects the bytes to execute from memory (which may be RAM or cache). Each instruction is saved in memory as one or more bytes depending on the processor type. The more the word +length, the more complexity and power consumption of the processor. Once the processor collects the bytes, then it is ready to decode it.

2. Decoding: In this phase, the processor takes the bytes read in the previous step and input them to the decoder. The decoder activates then the line corresponding to the instruction whose bytes equal to the bytes read from the fetching phase. Each instruction in the processor is mapped to a certain bits or bytes by the designer so that when the processor fetches these bits or bytes, it can understand them. The number of bits used to represent each instruction may vary according to the processor type. Note that this number of bits may not take the whole word in the memory. For example if the word is represented by 8 bits, then the first four bits can be assigned to the instruction part and the last four bits can be assigned to the data which is needed for the instruction to execute.

3. Executing: once the processor knows the meaning of the bits by the decoder, it goes then to the execute phase. In this phase, the processor makes the necessary operation as denoted by the decoder. This operation is done on the operand contained along with the instruction bits in the memory word.. The operation can be addition, subtraction, AND, or any mathematical or logical operation.

4. Write Back: once the processor done the operation, it writes it back to the memory in the place denoted by the instruction. This result may be fed to other instructions in the same program.

Zimbra Vs Gmail

At DataSync, we have taken a close look at mail/collaboration solutions, in particular Zimbra vs Gmail. We discovered that while Gmail has the ability to provide the features necessary for simple users, it lacks robust features small businesses need. Users looking to centralize customer communication find the solution in Zimbra collaboration suite.

When comparing the two mail clients, here is what we discovered with each feature of Zimbra and Gmail:

* Email, Calendar, Contacts - Both Zimbra and Gmail are full featured mail clients, with contact and calendar sharing. However, Zimbra takes it a step further with email message threading in a hierarchical display, as well as drag and drop email, calendar and contacts.

* Mobile Devices - Zimbra has BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) connectivity, as well as syncing with the iPhone. Gmail is able to sync to the iPhone as well, but has no BES connectivity. This is an important distinction, as a large percentage of the US uses a BlackBerry as their preferred mobile device.

* Support - Zimbra provides you with corporate support. Gmail does not, unless you upgrade to the premier edition.

* Open Source - Zimbra is open source, giving you the freedom to take the application into your own hands. Zimbra is an inexpensive, robust solution.

Overall, Gmail provides users with the basics of a mail client but it lacks the features necessary to make a business run more efficiently. The overall advantages of Zimbra vs Gmail make it a compelling offering for businesses large and small. DataSync provides affordable Zimbra hosting services, making it accessible for any business.

DataSync hosts open source software including: Zimbra Collaboration Suite, SugarCRM, Drupal, and QuickBooks, and integrates the apps into a single suite, DataSync Suite. This provides integration among the applications, and increases efficiency for your small business. Check out the website at http://www.datasyncsuite.com for more information.

Save Your Computer and Your Wallet With a Good Computer File Clean Up

When it comes to dealing with a cluttered computer, many problems could stem from this condition. Regardless of the many problems that come from these circumstances, the fact remains that outside of purchasing a new computer, the problems will persist and eventually grow more serious and pronounced if left unattended. That is why in these situations you might find that the solution is a computer file clean up. However, if the idea of you sitting down and going through file after file and tossing those files out that are taking up space does not sound like a good way to spend a few weekends, then fear not. Today there are plenty of software options that have made this job a lot more simple and much less time consuming.

In most cases, when a computer is at issue, software is the answer. In this case, it is certainly the answer. In most computer hard drives there will be many files, probably even thousands of files and while you could manually go through and find those files that need to stay and that need to be discarded, the amount of time it would take to go through these one by one would be staggering. That is why having a dedicated program to handle this job is so important. With a program or software dedicated to this task, it will normally take a few minutes what might take you many days when doing a manual computer file clean up.

The question then remains, what sort of program you will need to use. The reality is that most if not all computers these days come with computer file clean up programs and these programs can be very useful in doing most clean up jobs. However, they can be a little limited and if you have a very big problem with many thousands of files cluttering up and slowing down your computer, then you might need a little more cleaning power than your standard clean up program can offer. What it really boils down to is, how serious is your problem. For many users, the clean up program that windows comes with will do nicely, but for more advanced situations, another program might need to be used. You will need to the determination as to how significant your problem is before you make a decision.

Whatever avenue you need to take when it comes to computer file clean up software, the goal is to clean up your computer to get it to run as it should. Many people will needlessly think that they need a new computer and will ignore the fact a simple cleaning of their computer will do the trick. If you are experiencing this problem of a slow computer, before you spend big money on a new hard drive or new computer, try to give your computer a good cleaning first. It may not only save your computer, but it could save you a ton of cash as well.

Data Link Layer of the OSI Reference Model

Data link layer is the second layer among the seven layers in the OSI reference model. This layer ensures that the data from the physical layer is error free and in case there are errors, it takes corrective measures to rectify them. This layer is responsible for transferring data between the network nodes.

The manner in which data flows in this particular format is frames. Also, the data transfer happens between any two adjacent nodes in case of Wide Area Network and between the network nodes in the same Local Area Network.

There are some protocols that govern how data should move between such nodes, they are:

PPP: PPP stands for Point to Point Protocol. This particular protocol is used in establishing an active connection between the consecutive nodes. This is also responsible in providing authentication, encryption, privacy and also compression. It is used in many connections such as serial cable, telephone links, cellular telephone, and also fibre optic links such as SONET, etc.

HDLC: The full form of this is High-Level Data Link Control. This is a bit oriented synchronous data link layer protocol that is known to provide both connection and also connectionless services. This particular protocol can also be used to establish a single point to multipoint connection. It is mainly used to interconnect two devices using the asynchronous balanced mode or the ABM.

ADCCP: Advanced Data Communication Control Protocol is also another bit-oriented data link layer protocol that helps in both point to point and also point to multipoint of data frames that seem to be containing the error controlling information. This protocol is responsible in placing data on the network and also ensures its safe delivery to the destination. It is functionally almost the same as the HDLC protocol.

Backing Up Your Computer Hard Drive

Millions of people suffer their computers crashing every day. When this happens important data information, and media is lost. If it is crucial enough they will have to pay a company to retrieve it, which is costly and does not guarantee that all will be regained. There are simple steps an individual can take to save their data and sentimental media that gets saved on a computer hard drive. Losing important documents and photos can be heart wrenching. That is why a person should always back their data, photos, media, and documents with back up discs.

If you have photos you do not want to lose you can simply back up your computer hard drive by using a flash card or backing everything up on discs. You can label the discs and revert back to them, if your computer ever takes a dive. The same goes for documents, flash drives are easy to use and inexpensive, and discs can be bought in bulk. You will have to pay far more in the future of you do not take the time and action of backing your computers information up.

Although you may think that your computer hard drive will never crash, you are wrong. It will happen to you, and if you are not prepared with back up, you will lose precious data. This makes all your work in vain, however choosing to back up your data will save you the agony, expense, and hassle when it crashes. You will just simply be able to take your back up disks and reload them on your computer, instead of waiting countless hours for a data recovery company to retrieve nearly nothing for a big price tag. How the Prevention of RAID Failure Might Be Your Saving Grace

Detecting and preventing data problems and subsequent RAID failure before it happens is always better than trying to fix them when they rear their ugly heads. RAID's goal is to increase data reliability, but as we know, technology performance is not always as reliable as we hope it will be, so we should always prepare ourselves accordingly. There are ways for you to prevent the loss of your precious data, and who wouldn't want to avoid the drama of systems mysteriously, leaving us without easy access to our RAID drives. If disaster strikes, contacting RAID data recovery specialists is your best bet, but there are ways in which this tragedy can be prevented altogether.

There are reasons as to why so many businesses use RAID. RAID drives have the ability to combine several physical disks into a larger device and boast redundancy and performance improvements. The most common area where we find RAID failure is in the storage subsystem. The most obvious way to prevent the loss of data is to constantly backup your data, not matter how advanced your system. The sooner you realise that data loss can happen to anyone, the sooner you will be able to protect your data from RAID failure.

Advanced storage devices are designed to anticipate the possibility of data disasters, but even advanced RAID arrays can face failure. The way in which a RAID drive is supposed to prevent failure is by supplying a level of fault tolerance that will keep your storage subsystem out of danger.

There will be times when one of your drives will fail whilst the others in the array are still in perfect working order. It is suggested that you label each drive and cable to make sure that you do not remove a working RAID drive instead of the RAID drive that has experienced the failure. Labelling them will make it easier for you to match them to the port on the controller card as well as to the drive numbers. This may seem unnecessary, but it could be your saving grace in a replacement situation.

Another common problem that arises with RAID arrays is that many decide to purchase drives without knowing the manufacturing details. There is the possibility that the drives might all come from the same manufacturing lot if they were all bought together. Using drives from the same manufacturing lot can result in RAID access failure. It is suggested that you implement RAID 6 if you have not done so, which will help you recover from two separate failed drives.

In some instances, your RAID drive might be damaged and there is nothing left to do to prevent RAID failure, in which case your only option is to let the professionals take over and recover data lost

Optimizing Your Computer System

There are different ways by which one can optimize the performance of a computer system. Sometimes, it may require an upgrade such as a memory enhancement or the simple installation of an additional memory if the system specifications would allow it. Another means is to install a software program that could help in managing programs and files contained in the computer. Hardware upgrades are not always the solutions to your computer errors.

A computer system has a design and specifications that would allow for a certain maximum configuration. A system running a Windows 95, for instance, is most likely not compatible to run a Windows Vista as an operating system. The same is true for a Windows 2000 system which is not able to handle a memory upgrade suitable for gaming purposes. Slow running computers that have software issues may require a Registry Cleaner.

A Registry Cleaner is a software program that essentially cleans the junk out of your computer by thrashing out unnecessary files and malicious applications that have made their way into your computer with you being unaware that they did. Apart from this, other features include having a better start-up programs management, regular scanning for threats and viruses, easier installation and un-installation of software programs, reversible registry actions that is made possible by the software's backup and undo features, and deletion of data history that contains account passwords credit card numbers and other private information exchanged online.

All of these features contribute to the optimization of your computer performance while maintaining security of your private information. The Registry Cleaner better file management feature benefits the user in such a way that it gives the user more and better control in which applications are allowed to run. This in turn, would prevent programs, both wanted and unwanted, from running simultaneously which causes the slow performance of the system.

The security and protection features of Registry Cleaner ensure a clean registry as it deletes unwanted files and malicious applications that make the user vulnerable to hacking and other malicious actions. Another good thing about it is that a Registry Cleaner works with absolutely any system running a Windows operating system.

I always use Workstation OPtimizer it is by far the best registry cleaner. It also has an internet optimizer, and a Spyware destroyer!

Dealing With Data Recovery

We seldom think about how important our hard drive is until something happens that causes it to crash. When it does crash, we suddenly realize that everything from our checkbook, to our calendar, to all our favorite photos, are stored on our now defective hard disk.

The one thing that you should have learned from watching any of the procedural television shows is that there is always a way to recover your data from your computer's hard disk drive. The trick is knowing how to get to the missing data.

Hire a Professional

The first thing you should accept is that even if you are usually able to repair most of your computer's problems, you probably won't be able to recover your lost data files by yourself when your hard disk crashes. In this situation your best bet is to seek the assistance of a certified professional. Not only will the computer technician be able to recover your missing data, they will also be able to make any repairs that your drive requires. Double check that the professional has experience repairing your brand of hard drive and your computer's operating system.

A RAID Configuration

If your computer uses several different disk drives, then your life will be considerably easier. All you have to do is remove the damaged hard drive. Once you have done this, you can either replace the disk with a new one, or you can have the damaged hard disk drive rebuilt. When you remove the damaged drive, the remaining hard drives should regenerate your missing data. The problem with having multiple hard drives (this system is called a RAID configuration) is that if several of the hard disk drives crash, then you will have to bring all of your disk drives to a computer technician to have them repaired. Make sure that the computer technician knows that your hard drives are a RAID configuration.

When All Hope is Gone

Occasionally, you will hear that your computer's hard drive is beyond repair. If this is the case, the professional that you have hired will tell you as soon as they have diagnosed the problem. When this happens, you should plan on cutting your losses and just go ahead with purchasing a brand new hard drive. Before the computer technician starts to work on your hard drive, you should find out if the cost of the repair is going to cost more than it would to simply purchase a brand new hard drive.

Computer Running Slow?

In this article we would like to address a common issue that's being reported by many computer users which is - "computer running slow".

First let's separate two major possible reasons for computer being slow:

First is when computer became really old and new software is way too "heavy" for an old CPU, RAM, Video Card, Hard Drive and the chip set.
Second is when computer is just a few months old and is already running slow.
When it's the first problem there is not much choice but to try to perform a series of hardware upgrades (read our hardware upgrades article). I'll just mention one most important upgrade of all and that would be RAM! The reason behind it without going into too many details is the way computer programs are being executed by your computer and the sequence of events that takes place. Basically RAM is the middleman and is acting like a type of buffer. If you've ever played a streaming video, you'll notice that with a fast Internet connection you'll be able to re buffer faster and play the video or audio much smoother. Increasing RAM is in a way similar to increasing Internet connection speed for streaming content.

Now lets focus on the second problem, and that's the primary purpose of this article.

It effects new users much sooner than experiences users since those who have been using computers for a while realize that if they keep on installing and uninstalling software, eventually that causes some weird problems which eventually will lead to a path of reformatting a system because it's unstable and extremely slow.

The reason behind it, especially when running Microsoft Windows Operating System is how Windows manages resources. When you start up your computer and the BIOS hands off the boot sequence to operating system which could be Windows XP or Vista or Mac OS and many others, each OS will mount the file system, hardware drives for all types of devices and then a bunch of start up programs.

Hardware devices and Start-up programs are the major reasons for a dramatic and noticeable slow down of the whole computer. OS could be probing for a device that's not functioning, it could have a start-up service enabled, it could also be a start-up task.

The delay for every single hardware glitch could be as long as a few seconds (15 sec for example) until it times out and OS moves on.

As far as the software, one of the worst resource hugs are all kinds of anti viruses. It's also one of the applications that you don't have much choice but to run. Without mentioning any names, many companies would allocated 5% - 60% of your systems resources - depends how new your computer is to perform live system monitoring / scanning.

You can manage your computer and keep it updates and fast as long as you have the time to:

Monitor start-up services
Keep Windows registry clean
De-frag your hard drive
Get rid of temp files
Monitor and see if the latest Antivirus software is not too resource intense, if it is try a different software

5 Reasons to Get a Netbook in 2009

Netbooks have been in the hi-tech spotlight for the last 2 years. The first netbook was released in 2007 and estimations say that, by 2012, there will be 50 million units sold. If you`re thinking of going with the flow and buying a netbook, we`ll give you 5 reasons not to regret your decision.

It`s all about the size! A netbook is especially designed to fit anywhere you want: whether it`s brief case, a backpack or a bag, you can easily put it in and take it everywhere with you. The screen size varies between 7 to 12 inches and offers you good image quality, powerful colors and clarity.

If it`s not all about the size, it must be about the weight! A netbook is as light as it can be, weighing no more than 2.9 lbs., so you can carry it wherever you go. The advantage here is that anyone can carry such a light computer: a child, a woman, an elder. It does not cause any difficulty or distress.

Another reason to get a netbook is that you can have any operating system you have on your personal computer: Windows, Linux, Google Chrome OS, Mac OS X and others like FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Darwin and Moblin, so you don`t have to change anything major.

More to that, you don`t have to worry that your battery will give in after 2 hours of browsing the web. The newest models of netbook have a 6 cell battery, that keeps it `alive` for up to 8 hours. There are also the average models, with a 3 or 4 cell battery, enough to keep you connected for a few hours.

The last reason to buy a netbook computer is probably the most convincing one of all: the price. You can enjoy spending your time browsing the net, shopping online, chatting or uploading pictures on your favorite social network, in whichever operating system you want by buying a small, light weight, 10 inch screen for only 350$. You get good quality for little money.

John is a big fan of netbooks and likes to write guides and tips about these little devices from time to time.

We should make secure that all our demands are met by the wholesale vendor. The computer hardware and software configurations of the laptop, the size and shape and also the memory requirement are serious factors that have to be discussed with the wholesale seller before purchasing a laptop computer. We also have to make sure that we are being volunteered good quality products and only then go ahead with the deal. We have to determine if the wholesale vendor has the permit to deal trademarked Laptops and accessories. Thus, if we ensure all this info, then we can definitely possess a good quality laptop at a really modest and low-cost monetary value.

I have great interest in wholesale china goods such as wholesale jewelry, wholesale cell phones, wholesale watches, wholesale jerseys and wholesale golf clubs.
As a famous wholesaler, I have engaged in this line for more than 10 years.
I am glad to share experiences of china wholesale with you.

Tips on Speeding Up Your Computer

Are you facing problem with your computer whereby it is running too slowly? A computer which runs at a low speed is not only a nuisance, but also a waste of time. Running low with your patience meter? Here are steps which I find very handy as to how to make my computer run faster, believe me, it works well.

The most obvious step is to upgrade the RAM and since it's selling at a very cheap price these days, I'm sure majority users can afford it for speeding up the computer performances. Also, getting rid of all the unneeded software is another good way as to how to make my computer run faster.

Also, the internet is almost a must for everyone who owns a computer and sometimes, certain application might slow down the computer. Hence, I always go for instant messaging (IM) clients which provide all-in-one package since I have several accounts from different IM clients. Another thing which I find useful to me as to how to make my computer run faster is to keep only one internet browser. Just pick one which you feel you can work well with and also compatible for your needs and uninstall the rest.

Besides, I always disable the shortcuts on my desktops as it is really time consuming for my computer's start-up. Another fact which shouldn't be ignored is to always check or scan the computer for spywares, viruses and malwares. These evil stuffs slow down your computer and corrupt your files. Remember to get rid of them regularly.

One thing which most people seem to ignore is that the programs which open automatically during the computer start up actually slows down the computer considerably as they take up the memory. So, limit the number of programs which starts automatically. After reading the above, I am sure that you have quite an idea to improve the speed of your computer.

Hardware and Software Firewalls

If you're an employee in a medium- to large-sized business, you probably have no idea how well your individual machines are protected. In my company, whenever they need to reboot certain hardware relating to protecting emails even for five minutes, I notice an increase in the number of spam that gets through to our PCs. Larger business can afford sophisticated firewalls to protect their assets. After all, hackers do not target the "little people." No, hackers try to make a statement by going after the most powerful and arrogant business owners out there. Fortunately, they have no shortage of super easy targets.

So, business can afford to purchase expensive but great protection for their networks.

The small business owner and the home business computer owner have different problems. they don't have the financing for top dollar hardware and software protection, but they're not usually the target of cyber attacks. So, there is a fine medium: software firewalls.

There are many programs that offer incredibly good protection for cyber attacks, and they're free. The thought is to enthuse as many people as possible to go out and purchase the slightly better protection. The charge is rarely over $50 but the protection you receive is outstanding. ZoneAlarm is one such program. You can download it for free or you can buy a copy, thus entitling you to quicker upgrades and technical support if you need it.

Personal firewalls are great tools. If you still have Windows XP, you can protect yourself very well from attackers getting into your system because XP has its own built-in firewall. The freebies are well worth the time it takes to get your system set up. If you like the tool, support their effort by paying for the software.

Make Your Computer Start Up Faster

If you're one of the many people who wish they could speed up the time it takes their computer to start, there is a little application, called StartUpLite, that makes it very easy to disable unnecessary programs that load when you first turn on your computer. Disabling these unnecessary startup programs allows your computer to breeze through the bootup process and be ready for your commands a lot quicker.

StartUpLite is a small download that you run one time. It lists all your unnecessary startup programs in a list with an explanation of what the program is, and what it does, and why it is unnecessary. If you want to accept the StartUpLite recommendations and disable all the items in the list, you can leave all the checkmarks and click "continue" at the bottom of the screen.

I have found that StartUpLite is always correct in displaying which programs are unnecessary, so you can feel confident in accepting their recommendations. Now, this doesn't remove the actual program from your computer or disable it from running when you need it. StartUpLite's disabling process just prevents the extraneous bits of compute code from running during the computer startup process.

This program is easy to use. Simply download StartUpLite and save it to a convenient location. Then find and double click on StartUpLite.exe. Select all options you would like executed or accept the recommendations of the program, which is to leave all the checkmarks in place, and then select continue.

One reason I feel so comfortable recommending this program is that so many people have been helped by Malwarebytes' Anti-malware program (also free). Both of these programs are easy to use and don't require the user to be a computer geek in order to run them.

The only issue with StartUpLite is that it is not UAC aware yet. Vista users who enabled User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista need to run StartUpLite as administrator by right-clicking StartUpLite.exe, then choose "run as administrator". But this is a very minor issue.

Benefits of Downloading a Free Driver Update Utility

First of all you need to know exactly what a driver is and what its function is within your system. A driver is responsible for making hardware or programs function correctly. It is the source through which data travels from hardware to the operating system, making this process all possible. Once the data reaches the Windows program it will then synchronize by distributing it between the two. There is always a command for the computer to do that benefit's the user. It doesn't matter what kind of device you hook your computer to, it will always need a driver and commands that Windows can execute to make it perform.

In the technical world, almost every device requires a driver. Since there are thousands of drivers made for several different things, it is necessary to use a driver update utility.

The technical world moves at a very fast pace, and changes are made to products everyday. It is not uncommon for Windows to receive commands it does not understand from a device. This will create a conflict or error within your system. The best way to solve this problem is by finding current updates needed by the products manufacturer. You can find this information using the Internet.

However, Windows has changed, in that the newer version (Vista) can accept a wider variety of drivers. They have added an option where you can download the latest driver using the Windows live website.

All this information has been leading up to the appropriate question. If there is now an automatic option for downloading updates, why download another utility program for updating? There are two very good reasons for getting this extra program. The first is because the process of getting updates can be very time consuming. Simply because the update functions need to go through a proxy, before they can be executed. Secondly, it is possible that Windows will not have the latest update for your driver. Free update utilities have a larger data base with many more driver options available than Windows.

Remember that the lack of current driver updates is known to be one of the more frequent occurring error problem. Now with this information there should be no issues with your system and update errors. The world of updates is at your fingertips with a Free Driver Update Utility program.

Ways to Free Up Hard Drive Space

If your computer is starting to crawl where it once ran as fast as a cheetah, you need to start looking at different ways to free up hard drive space. Your hard drive is like the heart of your computer and like a regular heart you need to keep it as clear and uncongested as possible to maintain maximum efficiency.

There are numerous ways you can free up hard drive space and some ways are a bit more complex than others. Here are some of the easiest, yet most often overlooked ways to free up your hard drive space:

• Manual deletion of unwanted programs: Getting rid of programs that you no longer want or use should be the first step in gaining back your hard drive. Many times a computer comes with certain programs installed that you will never use. If this is the case, then delete them. Right away you will see a difference.

• Manual deletion of unwanted files: As with ridding your computer of unwanted programs, you may have numerous files that have been saved that you no longer need. By deleting these files you are ensuring that your computer will run faster because you will be freeing up all kinds of space on the hard drive. It is important to note that just because you delete a file does not mean that it is gone from your computer. Be sure to empty your recycling bin each time you delete a batch of files to be sure that the files are gone for good.

• Run a defragmentation: Running a defragmentation of your computer will actually 'shuffle' files around on the drive that are taking up too much space and will thus give you that space back. Sometimes a small file can be saved onto a full disk sector and when your computer is low on disk space or hard drive space it will then break these types of files into chunks in order to save other files and the result is a slower computer. A defragmentation will re-order all of your files and the savings in computer drive space can be quite large.

• Store important files elsewhere: If you are a shutter bug you and are storing your entire pictures collection on your computer you should consider storing them elsewhere. Doing so will not only help you to free up hard drive space but will also keep your photos safe from the unforeseen. Hard drives crash all the time and when they do you could lose the photos forever. The same can be done with any other types of files like Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. This can be accomplished by using an online backup company such as Carbonite or by getting yourself a jump-drive and transferring all your important files.

Keeping your computer running fast can be a tricky thing to do at times. By keeping your hard drive as clear as possible you will really help in the speed department and with a little regular maintenance this is fairly easy to do.

Jason Kay recommends viewing using free online storage to backup and store your computer files.

Is your computer often crash lately? Computer crash is a dreadful thing. For one you have to hire people who fix computers. There will be a certain period of time when you cannot use your computer because it is in repair. You have to spend money for the services and parts. The best way to prevent this is to take good care of your computer.

Pc games are so in demand these days. These are games that are not just for kids but for adults alike. The computer games that we used to play before are far gone today's pc games are more sophisticated with very cool graphics.

Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) are computer games where a large number of players interact inside a virtual game world. A player will take the role of a fictional character gaining control of all its abilities and powers. The virtual world will be hosted by the developer of the game and it will evolve during the players are away and not online.

One of the biggest factors that made MMORPG popular is the cool graphics used in building the virtual world. The virtual world is usually characterized by colorful graphics that are highly interactive; it will usually react to the actions of the characters.

These kinds of games will require high performance machine to run properly. If your computer hardware does not meet the requirements then there's a big possibility of a computer crash.

My Computer is Slow - Try a Simple Test For RAM Capacity

Your computer's RAM (Random Access Memory or simply short term memory) is where your computer stores certain data that it uses frequently so it can be accessed easily and quickly. The capacity of the RAM will effect the computer's speed and performance. Random Access Memory is different from hard drive memory. Hard Drive Memory stores most of your pictures, music, programs, and other data.

Here are some reasons you may need to add RAM:

(1) The two main operating systems today are Windows XP and Windows Vista. XP requires much more RAM than Vista maybe as much as twice the memory. Check your operating system. If it use up around 75% of your RAM capacity your computer will be slow.

(2) Gaming needs much more RAM than just surfing the internet, word processing, etc. Also, Gaming also requires very fast processor speed. So, if your computer is slow while play games, check your game specs against your processor speed.

(3) Many slow computers simply not have enough RAM. And yet RAM is not expensive. When ordering or buying a new computer, get extra RAM added. It is money well spent.

There is a SIMPLE TEST that can determine if your computer has enough RAM. Right click on your desktop's lower tool bar and you will get a pop-up box. Then click on "Task Manager" and the Windows Task Manager opens showing the Applications, Processes, etc. that are running. Look at the bottom of the box by "Processes", "CPU Usage", and "Physical Memory".

Compare CPU Usage and Physical Memory. CPU Usage is how much of your computer's processor (or engine) capacity is being used by percentage (i.e. 0% is idol and 100% is max'ed out). The Physical Memory is your RAM. This shows what is going on inside your computer. Simply put: The closer your Physical Memory is to 100% the harder your CPU will have to work. And the slower your computer will be.

Now, let your computer completely catch up and go to idol. Your CPU Usage should fall to 0% or at least to 10%. (If it will not fall this low then your have a program running - it maybe your virus protection program that is running, if not you could have a virus - and that is another matter.) Once it has fallen close to an idol, check your Physical Memory percentage. If your Physical Memory or RAM still shows to be in the 75% or plus area you do not have enough RAM to operate your computer at optimum speeds.

How to Stop Computer Errors

Computer errors are one of the most annoying parts of using a computer. Not only do they appear at the worst times possible, but they can also stop what you are doing and prevent you from being able to complete your work or enjoy your computer in peace. This is a major problem, which affects millions of computers... but there's a cure to stop most computer errors.

Computer errors are not harmful to your computer - they are just simple messages from Windows telling you that something is wrong.... it's the problem which the error is reporting that is harmful to your PC. There are many different error messages which can appear on your computer, but almost all of them are caused by a single part of your computer, known as the 'registry'. This is a big database at the core of Windows, which stores all sorts of information and settings about your computer.

The registry is extremely important, but is also one of the most vulnerable parts of Windows. Because it's so important, it's constantly being used by your computer to tell it everything from how many emails you have to how much hard drive space you have left. Each time you use your PC, 100's of registry files are all being used for a variety of different reasons. This is okay, but because there are so many files open at once, it's also a big problem for your computer... because Windows easily gets confused and saves many of these files in the wrong way.

When this happens, the files your computer needs to run are made incredibly difficult to read, forcing Windows to take longer and longer to decode the files, next time it needs them. This not only slows down your PC, but if your computer cannot load any registry files, it ends up making errors inside your system, which are the ones you are seeing on screen. And because the registry database has so many files inside, these errors are extremely random and can be about anything.

Luckily, there's a simple way to fix this problem, and remove most of the errors from your computer. There are tools called 'registry cleaners' which you can use to clean out the registry and fix all the damaged files that are in there. These pieces of software work by scanning every registry file on your computer and then fixing any of the damaged files that they find inside it. This allows your PC to read the files it needs, preventing any errors from appearing.

From our experience, the best registry cleaner to fix errors on your computer, is a tool called RegAce

Technological Advancements in the Niche of Video MP3 Players

Storage and retrieval of audios, videos and some other type of files used to be the primary function of portable video mp3 players. These days, manufacturers are deviating from the usual paradigm. They are now incorporating a number of the most advanced features available in the niche on their flagship products. People love roaming about with these gizmos, regardless of any concern for the technology involved. In the succeeding passages, I will be listing certain technical advancements that can be found in certain video mp3 players available in the market.

GPS: GPS stands for global positioning system. The army initially used the technology, but these days expensive mobile phones are various other gadgets are incorporating the same. The idea is simple - you will be able to find out your exact location in the map of an area. No more getting lost in an unknown part of the country, no more asking for directions - just fire-up the GPS functionality of your portable video player and a map of the current area will be displayed (along with your positioning). Moving to the nearest inhabited location is thus easier.

TV: Yes, you read that right. Some manufacturers are known to incorporate portable TV on their portable video mp3 players. This can be either in the form of DTT (digital terrestrial transmission) along with the conventional TV tuner card technology. Although these products were initially released in the Asian markets, they have gained a large fan-base in the country. Subscription based TV services are available for the consumers. Bear in mind that these services are going to be very expensive - ensure that you can maintain these services, before jumping ships.

Compatibility with a wide variety of file formats: The products that are being released these days are known to include support for images, power point files, PDF files. The list is very exhaustive and listing all of them, is impossible. You will be able to watch the photos that were taken during the weekend party or skim through those presentation files and cross check for errors or maybe pass the time reading a novel - whatever be the requirement, a portable video media player will aid you in executing the same.

Including wireless capabilities in the product: Many advanced wireless protocols like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are incorporated in most of the present generation of portable video mp3 players. Bluetooth can be used to transfer digital files. Wi-Fi can be used for playing streaming audio that is located elsewhere (in the vicinity).

Internet phone: Research in this niche is progressing fast. With the aid of this technology, you will be contacting any VOIP enabled system, with the aid of the internet. Since the entire paradigm is free (you will have to pay for the bandwidth incurred) distances are literally shortened with these services. VOIP will soon replace the conventional telephone systems, because many people are opting for it due to the relative lower operational costs.

Keep in mind that investing on the products that incorporate all these can be a bit costly. Practice premonition while selecting the best video mp3 player!

Restore Windows XP Registry and Restore Your PC's Speed

To restore Windows XP registry and make your PC fast again, you must delete or repair your Windows XP registry errors. The most common source of performance loss in PCs is a corrupt Windows registry. Over time, the programs that we install and delete leave behind holes in our registry. These empty and corrupt registry keys can cause poor computer performance, Windows errors, blue screens, freezes, and even crashes.

Here are 3 Ways to Restore Your Windows XP Registry:

Note: Manually deleting registry errors requires a good understanding of the Windows registry.

Manually Delete Your Registry Errors Manually repairing your Windows XP registry takes some patience, especially if you are not used to getting your hands dirty with your computer. Manually repairing your registry is outside of the scope of this article; however, there are free guides to the exact procedures that you must use on websites such as eHow.com.

Use Free Registry Cleaner Software There are many registry cleaner freeware tools online that you can use to repair your registry. I always advise people to save any freeware download files to their desktop; and scan those files, before installing anything onto your computer.

In my tests, most of the free registry software was able to repair some of my registry errors. These can be used to fix some of the errors that cause system freezes and crashes; however, none of the free software that I tested was able to provide a significant performance increase in my own PC.

Use Paid Registry Repair & PC Optimization Tools To do this, you must download one of the top registry cleaners, and perform a scan. This scan will let you know how many errors the registry software was able to detect; however, to fully restore your Windows XP registry, you must register the software.

The free download will let you delete some of your registry errors and, in most cases, tune your memory, as well. Generally speaking, if you have over 500 registry errors that can be repaired by one of these registry programs, you will gain a significant increase in your PC's performance

Tired of your sluggish PC? Chris Padgett has tested over 20 free and paid registry cleaner programs to find out which cleaners actually deliver the best performance increase. Restore Windows XP registry safely, and restore your PC to its former glory.

Is Your PC Running Much Slower Than When You First Purchased It? Find Out Why!

Have you noticed that your PC or laptop is not running as fast and as smooth as it did when you first purchased it? Well 90% of systems will over time start to run much less efficiently for a number of different reasons, which is why in this article I will be going through the most common reasons why this happens so that you can make sure your PC or laptop is always running at it's optimum speed.

Too much stuff/processes - Now this one is obvious, if your PC or laptop is running lots of things at once then it does not take a genius to tell you that the computer will be running much slower as a result. To resolve this issue you need to start to cancel some of the processes that are running that are not necessary to your machine's output. Also try not to have a full hard drive if possible, if you have programs on your machine that you no longer need then why keep them around? Just toss them in the old recycle bin!

Virus, Spyware or just general Malware problems - This is the single most common cause of a machine slowing down and not running as smooth and efficient as it used to. Most malware problems come from some form of download, most likely attached to something that you use and works. This is how the malware creators trick you, you download something and use it perfectly without knowing that in your PC's background the malware is silently working away while you are completely oblivious!

Make Your System Run As Smooth as Ever!

What if I told you there was a piece of software available that would make your machine run as smooth and as fast as it did the very first time you used it?

Well there is! and it is called Workstation Optimizer. Workstation Optimizer is a revolutionary new piece of software that will clean every part of your system and make sure that your machine runs like new every time you use it!

Why not try it for yourself? Download Workstation Optimizer

Microsoft Bing

Bing, Bing, Bing - What is Microsoft Bing?

Microsoft has recently launched its new search engine which is called Bing . Bing is launched in collaboration with Yahoo, which is the second best search engine. The aim is to overtake the dominance of Google as a search engine. Not going into business details, what you want to know is what is Bing.

With the launch of Windows 7, Bing comes as an integrated part of Internet Explorer. It is available on the upper right corner with a blue alphabet B meaning Bing. As soon as you type 3 alphabets of your search in Bing, your search is shortlisted many of the times with a tiny image display. And voila Bing get your results.

Well is this it? Guess what. Microsoft has introduced a series of Bing accelerators in IE8 (internet explorer 8). Confused? Well Bing is the search engine alright but its not just for text. You can Bing (search) for maps, language conversion and a lot more with just a right click. Confusion, confusion? Bing is pretty simple. Lets suppose you want to find the location of the restaurant about which you are reading reviews. All you have to do is select the address and right click map with Bing. And Bingo there you go, you have your restaurant on map. Amazing isn't it.

With Windows 7 all set to be launched and Bing already launched in internet explorer 8 it will and already has attracted many users worldwide. After all what is more simple now Binging or Googling? The question still remains.

Update Hardware to Speed Up Your Computer

The amount of RAM is an important factor governing how well your computer will run.

As a case in point, let's say you have 2GB of RAM on your computer. That might appear to be enough, but if you're running multiple applications, especially graphics programs, that can eat up your RAM quickly.

As a case in point, let's have a look at a popular graphics program, Photoshop.

Few people realize that Photoshop is a major RAM hog. To elaborate, to run Photoshop CS4, the minimum requirement is 512 of RAM with 1 GB recommended. If you have several programs running in addition to Photoshop and then start working on large file (say 40 MB with many layers), your system could slow to a crawl quickly.

Why?

A file of this type requires 3 x 5 times the amount of the file size in RAM in order for Photoshop to function properly. In this case, that's from 120 to 200 MB of RAM for the file alone, not to mention the RAM requirements for Photoshop, the operating system and the other programs

Fortunately, upgrading your RAM is relatively inexpensive, so I recommend you buy as much as you can afford. You'll discover that most present day computers are limited to approximately 4GB of which you can use 3-3.5 GB. If you're a computer graphics professional, you might be using a 64-bit operating system. These support more RAM.

Another thing to understand is that many manufacturers install RAM at a slower speed than what is optimal for your PC (i.e., 667Mhz installed with 800Mhz available). Updating your hardware can make a difference in performance.

Give me 10 minutes of your time and I'll show you how to speed up your computer, update hardware, rid yourself of computer infestations and protect yourself online.

What Are the Causes of Hard Disk Failure?

Almost everyone has had to deal with the pains of a dying hard drive, but not everyone knows what the causes of hard disk failure are. If you are still unaware of what you may be doing to shorten the life of your drive, you will be destined to scramble to backup your data when that ticking noise starts again. It is never pleasant to have to deal with a dying hard drive, so make sure you know what causes it and what you can do to prevent it.

Probably the single biggest cause of hard drive failure is physical trauma. Hard drives are extremely delicate, the pieces inside are built with only a micron of space between them. It doesn't take much to cause a scratch or other damage. Some computers are under the desk where they are constantly bumped and kicked. Others sit right next to loud subwoofers which may cause vibrations. Still others, and almost everyone has done this, get smacked a few times by frustrated users. Make sure your computer is kept in a safe place where it doesn't have to endure these physical abuses. And remember that hitting your computer will only make problems worse.

Among the causes of hard disk failure, overheating is a big one. Computers today are capable of incredible things, but they put out a large amount of heat in exchange. While the problem can usually be solved by turning down your settings or turning up your fans, sometimes there are layout issues inside the computer. Most pre-built computers are laid out just fine, but if you want to save money by building your own, there are a couple things to be aware of. You have to install the fans so that the airflow inside is maximized. Make sure you install the fans so they let out hot air at the top and force in cool air at the bottom. Heat poses a risk to the hard drive as well as almost every other facet of the computer.

One easily prevented problem is an electrical surge. Getting a surge protector for all of your computer's plugs is crucial. It cannot be stressed enough that you should never plug your computer directly into the wall. Even a small electrical surge can cause a computer to short out entirely. Not only could it kill the hard drive, but every other component is at risk. And make sure that your surge protector is tough enough to protect against a big surge. If it can't protect your computer adequately, it serves no purpose.

There are countless reasons that a hard drive can fail. These are just three of those reasons, but they are among the most common. If you take care of your drive, you shouldn't have to worry about that strange noise that you get when your hard drive plays its death knell. By listening to your hard drive and taking care of it properly, you can extend its life indefinitely.

The causes of hard disk failure may be many, but they are almost all preventable. And to prevent any data loss in the event your hard drive does fail, have a backup plan in place. Visit us to learn about the best online backup services available today!

What is So Hard About Hard Drive Data Recovery?

Almost everyone has had to deal with a hard drive failure and most of those people have had experience with hard drive data recovery. A failed or crashed hard disk is one of the worst things any computer user can experience. Until, that is, they see what it can cost to recover their data. Depending on the damage done to the drive, the cost can be hundreds to thousands of dollars. Just for a single drive. But there is a reason this process is so expensive. It is not simply because computer people get paid a huge hourly rate. What is required to restore the data on a hard drive is extremely intensive.

The first factor is the kind of damage done to the drive. If the data has simply been corrupted due to a virus or other software problem, the hard drive data recovery process is much simpler. Since the hard disk drive is mechanically sound, it is very easy to get it up and running again. The major problem with this type of failure is that operating systems lack the ability to read corrupt data. But a professional can break the data down into its binary form and then reconstruct it back into a useable format that the OS can read. This process is a lot simpler and cheaper to fix than a mechanical failure.

A hard drive is the only moving part in a computer with the exception of fans. When one of those moving parts fails, and they are prone to do so because they are very delicate, replacing them is a difficult prospect. First, not just any part will do. The data recovery team does not simply have a box of replacement heads lying around for every hard drive ever made. The pieces must come from a hard drive so similar that it may have been made at the same time and in the same factory as the damaged one. Finding and buying that specific hard drive can be costly. Then repairing the old drive and getting it running also costs a lot.

The most expensive aspect about recovering the data from a damaged drive is actually getting the drive up and running. Rebuilding corrupted data can be fairly simple and much cheaper. But if your drive was damaged because the drive was opened or from water or heat you will be looking at a much larger bill. Typically, the size of the drive or number of files to be recovered has an impact on the price as well if the data has to be rebuilt.

Obviously, the cheapest thing you can do is to prevent all these problems from occurring in the first place. While even the hardiest drive will eventually fail after prolonged use, you can backup often enough that you will only have to worry about replacing the drive, not the data.

If your computer files and data are important to you, don't take risks when it comes to computer crashes! It may cost a little for an online backup service, but compared to the cost of hard drive data recovery, you will be saving quite a bit.

Why Should You Backup Your Computer Files?

You may not think you have a good reason to backup your computer information. You're not a bank protecting thousands of customers from losing their financial information, nor are you a government body storing personal data for millions of people. But that doesn't mean that the pictures and e-mails and recipes on your drive aren't priceless. To you, they hold memories perhaps of an entire lifetime. While losing those things may not impact anyone but you, you owe it to yourself to safeguard the things that you love. Protecting your computer's files is a necessity in the digital age when so many people keep so much of themselves on their computer.

Some people have been keeping copies of their computer's files for decades. And it was always done the same way. You had to buy an expensive stack of floppy disks or CDs and organize your files so that everything in a category would fit onto one disk. Then, you had to label everything and store it away, taking up hours of time and lots of space. And you had to be very careful since something as simple as a little water, some scratches or even a magnet could erase all your information and hard work. Of course, you could buy a protective safe for all those storage disks, but even then you may not have enough space and you're just spending more money you don't want to spend.

But technology has come a long way when it comes to storage space. Now, you can buy external hard drives which will plug in to almost any computer you can find and work immediately. And all of your data is organized in folders, just like on your home computer's built-in drive. No more sorting through stacks of CDs and floppies. You can also get these drives in sizes that were unheard of until recently. Some drives can hold multiple terabytes of information, more than almost anyone could possibly need. For instance one terabyte drive could store over 200,000 photos at 5 megabytes each.

But not everyone wants to run out and buy a new, and often expensive, hard drive. While it lets you keep all of your files with you, which offers some comfort to most people, it can be a bit daunting for some people. Fortunately, there are plenty of companies which offer very user-friendly ways to store your data online. If you choose to use their services, you will be able to backup your computer using their storage devices. And you can rest easy because most of these companies house their servers in highly protected areas where they are nearly immune to damage or corruption. Your files are much safer with them than they are sitting in your office.

Whichever method you choose to backup your computer doesn't really matter. Just do something to keep your computer's information safe! If you use an online service such as Carbonite online backup, it is very affordable (less than $5/month) and they take care of all the work for you.
